Germany‘s role in transatlantic security: past, present & future
In cooperation with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, The Norwegian Atlantic Committee invites you to a seminar on German foreign policy in light of Konrad Adenauer’s 150th anniversary.
Adenauer was West Germany’s first post-WWII chancellor and coined the concept of “Westbindung” — the strategic anchoring of post-war West Germany within Western political, economic and security structures. Westbindung was more than just a foreign policy choice; it represented a long-term vision for stability, democratic consolidation and international rehabilitation through deep transatlantic and European integration.
Against the backdrop of renewed great-power competition and mounting concerns about U.S. unpredictability, Adenauer’s reliance on American leadership is again at the top of the agenda. Germany is now taking leadership in Europe and recalibrating its security posture by investing heavily in defence capabilities. The seminar will discuss the progress of the German ‘zeitenwende’, European autonomy, NATO cohesion and the future of the transatlantic partnership.
With us to discuss these current issues we have:
- Dr. Patrik Keller (Deputy Research Director and Head of Center for Security & Defense, German Council on Foreign Relations, Germany)
- Dr. Laura von Daniels (Senior Analyst, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, Germany)
- Robin Allers (Associate Professor, Norwegian Defence University College, Norway)
Secretary general of the Norwegian Atlantic Committee, Kate Hansen Bundt, will moderate the discussions.
Light breakfast will be served.
Welcome!
