The Leangkollen Conference

The Leangkollen Conference is the Atlantic Committee's annual two-day conference held during the first week of February.  Every year we invite individuals from our network to give speeches on current defence, foreign, and security policy issues. The conference is opened at the Nobel Institute, while the remainder of it is held at Leangkollen Conference Centre in Asker.  This annual security policy event has been arranged since 1965.

Due to the high interest and limited space, the conference is closed. Only those who are invited can register for the conference. Those interested can contact the Norwegian Atlantic Committee.

Speakers in recent years include former parliamentary president Jorgen Kosmo, Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store, former Defence Minister Anne Grethe Strøm-Erichsen, State Secretary Espen Barth Eide (Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs), Norwegian Ambassador to NATO Kim Traavik, former Director of NUPI Sverre Lodgaard, director of the Arctic Institute Olav Orheim, Professor Janne Haaland Matlary, as well as such researchers as Henrik Thune (NUPI), Morten Bremer Mærli (NUPI), Laila Bokhari (NUPI), Johnny Otterlei (FFI), and Helene Sjursen (ARENA).

The conference also attracts speakers from abroad, the likes of which include Professor Gilles Kepel (Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris), Sir Peter Ricketts (the British Ambassador to NATO), Chris Donnelly (UK Defence College), and Pieter Feith (Dep. Director General, External and Politico Military Affairs, EU).
